The preview server is currently in the alpha status, meaning we expect horrible bugs, regressions, things being broken or otherwise wrong. It's time to give our preview server a good shake-down. We're finally gearing up for the next major release. You have 2 weeks to report any bugs or anything else, that is not to your liking on the preview server. You have 2 weeks to finish off your regular/ironman characters on main servers and make it to the 1.1.4/1.4.0 highscore table. MAngband 1.5.0 is scheduled for release on April 1st 2019. Windows users should back-up and uninstall previous versions of the client. You will have to download a new client to play. There are many exciting improvments, like time bubbles and nicer UI, while the core gameplay should remain pretty much the same. Races - consider Tolkienising.10 years in the making, the next major MAngband version is finally here. Look at introducing some new classes, possibly from variants - candidates include Necromancers, Warrior-Mages, Druids, Assassins. In particular, rethink current spellcasting, with a view to reducing the number of books for half-casters and allowing variation of the same books for different classes. Think about group behaviour, and potential for (limited) conflict between monsters.Ĭlasses/Races - Rethink what the aims of all the classes are, especially Rogues which are more interesting in many variants. Possible introduction of monsters being awake but not aware of the player (as in Sil). Monster AI - No intention at this stage to introduce monster mana, but yes to a thorough examination of spellcasting AI. See if there are too many monsters which are more or less the same. See if there are obvious gaps where there is no monster in an interesting “ecological niche”. Monster list - Consider how changes to terrain and monster AI have affected existing monsters and see if they need to be adjusted or moved shallower or deeper.
